I was jury in a bandcontest called The Next Stage again. this time the overall finals. It was held during Langweiligkeit festival in The Hague and was two days lasting.
Both days were great, but I didnt count on a outdoor festival. Ok there were tents, but I was freezing all the time. But, instead of complaining about that, one band was fighting on the stage because they were suppose to leave after 30 minutes. but they didnt play 30 minutes. This because they complained a lot during the soundcheck and were whining about everything. So they took a longer soundcheck. That goes of their own playtime… duh… and uhm, it was not like they were the only band which had troubles.
Gosh I hate such crybabies. well the playing was not great either. backing vocals sucked big time and timing… my god…
And to my opinion… violence is never a solution, and not a good way to express your frustrations either.
But well other bands made it up! Saw nice names to remember. A girly duo, Promises, surprised me cause I didnt really thought I would like it. But yeah females punkchicks in vains of Vice Squad and Buzzcocks, hell yeah! Also kudos for the band The Q. I remember them from Utrecht Finals were I was also jury and they won with 1 point difference. Kinda lucky they won, because most people had them on place 3 or sth… but there was loads of differences in the nr’s 1 by then. but yeah, they played nice could be more varied though. I give them kudos for showing up the second day also. Shows me that they re no egocentric artists, but people who really care for music and bother to check out others also!
on the second day I liked the first band a lot. Agents in Panama is their name and they are completely instrumental. A part of the love came from the cello, which could have been used even more to mho. Half minute man was also very surprising. Didnt like them from the very first moment, but they convinced me during the set.
Anyway… on sunday I went to see Shinedown, who played awesome! and SOil too. counterwhatevertherestofthenamewas seemed a bit stoned, so they could have stayed at home and gave their 30 minutes to soil who got the people going.
Tomorrow: Juliette Lewis and Thurstday: Melomanics @ Absolut Vodka rock edition presentation. :)
Shinedown, Soil and Counterpoint photo’s online. find them under concerts
